Among the famous local products of Thassos, which are an important part of the island's culture and identity, are the delicious spoon sweets. Their rich and distinctive flavour is due to the use of traditional, high-quality Thassos honey, produced by local beekeepers. There are two main types of honey for which the island is famous: the darker-coloured pine honey, collected from the green pine trees, and the lighter amber-coloured anthomelo, sourced from the wildflowers that grow all over the island. The most renowned of the Thassos spoon sweets is the walnut. It is made from tender walnuts that are harvested very early in the spring, before they acquire their characteristic hard shell, and are transformed through special processing into a unique, particularly tasty, and nutritious sweet. Another local favourite is the fig, which is ideal as a dessert or enjoyed with your morning coffee.
