Xanthi Carnival
Every year, the city of Xanthi comes alive with vibrant energy during its renowned Carnival celebrations. Established in 1991, the Thracian Folklore Festivals were created to honour and promote traditional culture, ensuring its relevance to younger generations in an engaging and authentic way. The Carnival reaches its peak on the final Sunday with a spectacular parade featuring floats and participants in elaborate costumes, bursting with colour, music, and satire. People of all ages are drawn into the festive atmosphere, which culminates in the traditional custom of burning the effigy of Tzaros. Organised by the Municipality of Xanthi and its Cultural Centre, the Carnival of Xanthi is a celebration of history, culture, and joyous festivity.
