Old Town Celebrations
The Old Town Festival is a significant cultural event in Xanthi. Held at the transition from summer to autumn, this two-week festival transforms the old quarter of Xanthi into a vibrant hub of cultural activity. Since its launch in 1991, the festival has evoked nostalgic memories, embraced the present with music resonating through the narrow streets of the traditional settlement, and looked forward with optimism to the future. The festival features a diverse array of artistic performances, including dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. Cultural associations play a vital role, setting up their 'club haunts' with barbecues and tables where wine flows generously, appetisers are enjoyed at a rapid pace, and participants revel in the rhythms of rebetiko and folk music. Organised by the Municipality of Xanthi and its Cultural Centre, the Old Town Celebrations bring together the city's rich history, vibrant present, and hopeful future in an unforgettable cultural experience.
