Waterfall of Palea Kavala Zygos To reach the start of the trail, follow the road to Palea Kavala. 300 metres after the crossroads to Zygos, there is a dirt road on the right. Continue along the well-maintained dirt road for 1 km until you reach a crossroads in front of an old quarry. Take the left fork and, with the abandoned quarry on your right, continue uphill for another 500 metres, where the road ends and the path begins. The path follows the slope in a gentle and easy way, while the water makes its presence felt from the first moment, its sound echoing from the depths of the gorge. After ten minutes, we arrive at the most characteristic point of the route, an impressive waterfall that we can reach with a minimal deviation from our route. The waterfall is divided into two sections, one of which reaches a height of 6 metres. The water, which has eroded the rock over the years, has created two deep blue platforms on two levels, ideal for swimming in the summer months. Returning to the path, climb up and cross the first wooden bridge. For the rest of the way, we find ourselves under the tall plane trees of the stream, which we have to cross five more times over picturesque wooden bridges. The vegetation is lush, with ivy and lichens covering the trunks of the plane trees, creating the impression of a small jungle. In summer, the sun's rays barely penetrate the dense foliage and, together with the flowing water, provide a sense of coolness even during the hottest periods. Along the way you will also find the ruins of several water mills. After 2.5 km (about 1.5 hours) we reach the first houses of Palea Kavala and the central tarmac road of the village.
