In the centre of Thassos, at an altitude of 220 m, lies one of the island's most historic villages, Theologos. Located 50 km from Limenas and 10 km from Potos, it served as the administrative and commercial centre during the Ottoman rule and remains one of the most authentic settlements, featuring typical Macedonian architecture, watermills, and stone bridges. The village's rich historical heritage is visible throughout, including the churches of Saint Paraskevi and Saint Dimitrios, known for their ornate wooden iconostases, as well as Panagouda and Archangelos, which offer stunning views of the Aegean Sea and feature unique Byzantine frescoes dating back to around 1430. Theologos is also home to various shops offering handmade crafts, including items made from the renowned white marble of Thassos, as well as local products such as the famous thyme honey. A visit to the Hatzigiorgis Mansion, now a Folklore Museum, is essential for exploring the village's tradition and daily life through numerous exhibits. Other attractions include the impressive arched stone bridge from 1917, leading to Astrida, the Kefalogourna waterfall, old lime kilns, and water mills. One of the village's highlights is the re-enactment of the Thassos Wedding, a traditional event that draws people from across the island and concludes with a festive local celebration, offering a truly unique experience.
