Folklore Museum of Abdera
The Folklore Museum of Abdera offers a vibrant glimpse into the modern history of Abdera, nestled in Xanthi. Housed in a beautifully restored neoclassical building that formerly served as the village's old school, built in 1860, the museum is located above the church dedicated to the village’s patron saint, Agia Paraskevi. It is surrounded by other traditional structures, creating a picturesque mosaic of architectural heritage and cultural significance where stone meets wood, and the past intersects with the present. A remarkable feature of the museum is its small external balcony, which incorporates a section of an ancient sarcophagus—a detail that captivates observant visitors. The exhibits are arranged into two thematic sections: rural life and the art of weaving, spanning the period from 1830 to 1950. Visitors can immerse themselves in the everyday lives of the region's inhabitants, reconnect with their roots, and embark on a journey through Greece’s rich cultural heritage.
