Aaron Moses Mansion, Old Town Hall of Xanthi
The Aaron Moses Mansion is one of the most remarkable buildings in the Old Town of Xanthi. Constructed around 1880, it showcases neoclassical architectural elements infused with romantic influences from Western Europe. Initially, it served as the residence of the Jewish tobacco merchant Aaron Moses and later became the property of tobacco merchants Vassilios Mouratis, originally from Constantinople, and Ioannis Orphanides. In 1926, the Orphanides family sold the mansion to the Municipality of Xanthi, and it housed the City Hall until 2013.
The imposing two-story building, clad in local stone, granite, and sandstone from the Mandra region, captivates visitors with its rich interior decor, which includes intricate ironwork, plaster details, and carved ceilings. Today, the mansion has been fully renovated and serves as a cultural venue for the Municipality.
