One of the key neoclassical buildings in Alexandroupoli is the Zarifeios Pedagogical Academy, a historic landmark that has played a significant role in the city's educational landscape. For over fifty years, it served as the only higher education institution in Western Thrace. Constructed in 1923, it functioned as a Teacher Training College until 1934 and continued as a Pedagogical Academy until 1968. Today, it is home to several primary schools in the city.
