Ethnological Museum of Thrace
The Ethnological Museum of Thrace was established to preserve the historical memory of the broader geographical region of Thrace. It is housed in a stone-built neoclassical mansion dating back to 1899, located at 63 May 14th Street in Alexandroupolis. The museum has been in operation since October 2002 and is a self-funded project, partially subsidized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Ministry of Culture. The Ethnological Museum of Thrace serves as a vibrant space for exploring the folk culture of the region, linking the traditions and knowledge embedded in it with the concerns of contemporary society. Its exhibits include local costumes, utensils, tools, and handicrafts reflecting the relatively recent history of Thrace. Additionally, the museum features a system that allows visitors to search for individuals displaced from Eastern Thrace who settled in villages in the Evros region in the early 20th century.
