The breathtaking Trachoni Waterfall, also known as Livaditis Waterfall, stands at an impressive 40 meters tall and is the largest waterfall in the Balkans. Nestled on the border of Drama and Xanthi prefectures, it's truly a natural gem. You can reach the waterfall from Drama via a scenic 15-kilometer route that takes you through the Arkoudorema riverbed. If you're coming from Xanthi, there’s a lovely path that begins at the edge of Livaditis village. This trail heads east and leads you to one of the charming bridges in the area. There’s also a forest road stretching about 7 kilometres southeast, bringing you to within just 300 meters of the waterfall. The most popular way to get there is to start about 5 kilometres down the road from Livaditis village toward the Forest Village of Erymanthos. From that point, it’s just a 2-kilometer trek along a forest road, followed by a scenic 1,700-meter descent to the waterfall. The gentle trail meanders through a beautiful forest filled with beech trees, maples, ferns, and ash trees, offering stunning views along the way. Once you arrive at the waterfall, the sight is nothing short of magical—it's easy to imagine the Naiads from ancient myths and the fairies from our traditional folk tales coming to life in this enchanting setting.
