Imaret - Mehmet Ali's Residence - Old Town
The Imaret is a large Ottoman-period complex located in the Panagia peninsula of Kavala’s old town. Built between 1817-1821 by Mehmet Ali, the founder of Egypt’s last dynasty, the structure is a classic example of Islamic architecture. It served as a Muslim seminary and poorhouse, providing shelter and education to all in need, regardless of religion. Today, it operates as a hotel, preserving its historical significance.
