Anastasiadis Mansion (Marble House), tobacco warehouses and houses in the area of Agia Varvara and the historical centre of Drama
Marble House - Anastasiadis Mansion and Tobacco Warehouse
Drama
In 1875, the tobacco merchant Ioannis Anastasiadis built a tobacco warehouse and a mansion in the heart of Drama. The residence became known as the 'Marble House' due to its construction using marble-hewn blocks in its masonry and the marble columns at its entrance. The Anastasiadis complex, in addition to the Marble House, includes the tobacco warehouse and a courtyard adjacent to the beautiful park of Agia Varvara. This marble residence, along with the tobacco warehouse and its courtyard, constitutes the oldest and most significant historical and architectural ensemble preserved in Drama from the Ottoman period.
For years, the complex was abandoned until Aris Theodoridis, a ship-owner from Drama, decided to restore it to house his remarkable collection of cameras. The complex was renovated and eventually transformed into a museum, where cameras are exhibited, and the offices of the non-profit organization 'Kyklops' are located. The organization was founded by Mr. Theodoridis to promote arts and culture in Drama while also undertaking the restoration of these buildings.
The ground floor of the building has hosted significant exhibitions, and the restoration project was completed in 2023.
