Kallirachi is a large mountain village on the western side of Thasos with a view of Kavala. It is located at 24km from Thasos (Limenas) and 2.5km from Skala, Kallirachi. It was built in 1750 by the inhabitants of Kakirachi after its destruction by pirates. Kakirachi was built in the area of Agia Metamorfosi, the top above today's Kallirachi.
Kallirachi has narrow streets with traditional houses and the village is a place of peace and tranquillity. The inhabitants, about 600, are engaged in tourism, agriculture and fishing. The village is dominated by the holy church of Agios Dimitrios (Saint Demetrios), known for its acoustics. Follow the path leading to Agia Metamorfosi and you will come across an old stone bridge. In Agia Metamorfosi there is the homonymous chapel and the view from up there is magnificent.
